Snowcrest Riders Snowmobile Club……..

   2007/2008 Season in Review!

Snowcrest Riders Snowmobile Trails are CLOSED for the season. We would like to thank each and every one of you for supporting Snowcrest Riders Snowmobile Club!!!

Our Annual General Meeting will be held on Friday June 6, 2008 at Laker’s Restaurant on Bethune Dr. in Gravenhurst starting at 7pm in their private room.  All Snowcrest Riders Snowmobile Club Members* are welcome to attend. Anyone wishing to help the Club by volunteering can call the office at 705-687-7921 or e-mail at snowcrest@vianet.ca

Now that the season has come to an end, we would also like to thank The Easter Seals Society for partnering with Snowcrest Riders on February 23, 2008 for our 2nd Annual Snow-A-Rama.  With your help we raised a total of $4320.10. Plans are already being made to make this event even bigger and better for next year. We would like to thank the staff at Boston Pizza at the Wharf for all their hard work before the run.  They donated delicious breakfast pizzas with juice, coffee, tea and hot chocolate.  The Donkey’s Coffee Shack on B-Trail at Doe Lake Rd, prepared lunch for a nominal fee and then we returned to Boston Pizza after the run for prizes and give-a-ways.

We put a new spin on our Annual Pancake Breakfast in January, this year we added a Family Fun Day with outdoor activities and had a visit from the Muskoka Wildlife Centre.

The season started earlier than in the last couple of years and Mother Nature gave us some unrivalled weather conditions.  We never did get frost into the ground and when things were looking promising and we were almost ready to stake lakes and open more trails, in came the mild weather and rain. We had flowing water on trails that have never had any water problems before, ever!  Finally, after much dedicated hard work from our volunteers and cooler temperatures, we got them open and the lakes staked. However, every second Tuesday, we had spring again.  If nothing else, it was an adventurous season!!  We ended with about 15-22 inches of ice on most of the lakes. On March 31 there was nothing left on the roads, some of the trails had bare patches and some of the swamps were starting to open up, for everyone’s safety we reluctantly had to close our trails for the season. For our volunteers and groomer operators it was an extremely long season and not without some extremely complex conditions.  We would like to thank them all, for their hard-work and dedication.

We would also like to thank our Landowners, you are all vital to the sport of snowmobiling, without you our trail season would not exist.  We also would like to thank the MooseFM for airing our Snow-A-Rama and Annual Pancake Breakfast, Muskoka Today and the Gravenhurst Banner for coming out to our events.  We would like to thank our Permit Distributors who volunteer their time to fill out the permit applications and help us sell our permits and to all of you who purchased a permit, thank you!
